To
our great fortune,The
Denver Cruiser Ride has continued for all these years, mostly because we've encoraged folks to self police themselves and to be "good citizens." The
efforts of the riders to not run lights or act like hooligans
on the
street
has not gone unnoticed, and for those riders who are adhering to these simple rules, we'd like to say "thanks." However we are asking all of
the cruisers to help to protect the safety of the ride,
and
understand
that
in Denver,
a bicyclist is required to follow the same
rules as an automobile
when on public streets.
What Does This Mean To You?
Ultimately, it's each rider's responsibility to police themselves, however,
if one rider runs a red light, typically the ensuing riders follow suit (yup,
people are sheep you know) and this behavior can potentially cause someone
to be injured. It's important to understand that safety should be each
rider's
primary
concern,
and in
order to continue to keep the cruiser ride off the radar of the authorities,
I am asking each of you to become familiar with the traffic
laws in Denver,
and follow them on the rides.
I
am requesting that those who participate in each week's ride
remind your fellow riders to be considerate
of these "rules," and
make sure that we keep the ride safe and police free. There's
no reason to run red lights (other than to be rebellious, which
in many cases, I'm all for), but the reality is that it's your
resonsibility to participate in this very simple "Cruiser
Code," and
encorage other riders to do the same, keeping the ride safe,
and not a target of police action. (Boulder cruisers and the
the critcal mass folks know the results of this).
SAFETY
FIRST!
We have successfully
kept the ride accident free for more all these
years, let's keep it this way. By watching out
for others who haven't been on the ride before,
reminding them that keeping it safe, and following
the rules of the road, will mean keeping the
ride police free! Any illegal or inconsiderate
behavior benefits no one, and wrecks the ride
as we know it, be cool and check your ego at
the door.
What
is the Cruiser Ride?
The Denver Cruisers are committed to fun! This is more than just a ride, it's
a great way to meet people, and have lots of fun on a Wednesday night! We start
a local establishment EVERY WEDNESDAY from May 19th to September 29th, and spend
the evening cruising the streets of Downtown Denver.
Who
are these cruisers?
A group of riders got together in May of 2005, and decided to ride together
on a weekly basis... as it turns out, we've got a plethera of other bike fanatics
that love riding! We have so much fun, this is a very social group of people....
we ride, we party... most of all we have FUN! There's so many great spots we
visit... Starting from a local establishment and then on to the dreaded CIRCLE OF DEATH...
Do
I need a cruiser bike?
No... as long as it's got pedals and a wheel (one rider a few years ago rode
his unicyle)... there's no limit, or requirement other than coming with a bike...
many riders dress up, wearing costumes to match the themed Rides each week.
Last year: Goth Night, Dress Night, RED and well, we're gearing up for a bunch
of new themes.... <here>
Have
Fun!
We are a friendly group without a political agenda. All bikes are welcome but
don't expect a workout as we move at a one gear speed
Where
do we meet?
The Denver Cruisers currently meet at the Casselman's at 26th/Walnut Street every Wednesday starting at 6:30pm, until
September 29th. Come once or come every week... it's a total blast, and once
you get
hooked, it's pretty difficult to stop riding! Use
Common Sense (if
you have any?)
Please obey all the traffic laws like you would in your car. The police should
have better things to do than spend time with us - please help keep the ride
police-free by policing yourself. Don't ride intoxicated! (duh!)
This is not a Booze
Cruise or Critical Mass!
Please be cool and courteous to all. |
